Retained Product of Conception (RPOC)
A Retained Product of Conception (RPOC) scan is a medical imaging procedure used to identify and evaluate the presence of any remaining tissue from the products of conception (such as placenta or fetal tissue) in the uterus after a pregnancy. This condition may occur after a miscarriage, abortion, or delivery, where some tissue may be incompletely expelled from the uterus.
The RPOC scan is typically performed using ultrasound imaging. Transvaginal ultrasound is often preferred in these cases because it provides detailed images of the uterus and can help identify any retained tissue. The procedure involves inserting a probe into the vagina to obtain close-up images of the uterine lining.
